Where In The World Is Reggie Hayward?
You will never get a football coach to say that any practice is not VITALLY ESSENTIAL. But, truth be told, these off-season practices aren't going to make or break the season for a veteran. Usually, when a veteran isn't on the field this time of year, he's trying to make a point, like he wants a new contract, as is the case right now with Paul Spicer. Sometimes, as in Fred Taylor's case, he's working out on his own. But there is some mystery as to what happened to Reggie Hayward. The defensive end was on the field last week, but yesterday, he wasn't there, and Jack Del Rio didn't know why.
The rookies were there, however. Derrick Harvey and Quentin Groves are especially in the spotlight. The Jaguars are expecting big things from them, but Del Rio knows that the rookies are in catchup mode. Off-season practices continue today, Thursday and Friday for the Jaguars.
"Heads are spinning," Del Rio said. "They're trying to digest a lot of information. I think this approach as opposed to twice a day gives them a chance to catch up."
These practices are closed to the public, but the June 6-7 mini-camp are scheduled to be open to the public.
