Setting Fires to Prevent Fires
Clay County Fire and Rescue is planning on setting a controlled burn near Lake Geneva and wants the public's reaction.
They are setting the fire to burn out some built up underbrush and prevent a real wildfire from breaking out near the lake.
"We have areas that are built up in the brush adjacent to urban areas that are posing a threat," said Lt. Chip Ware. He says they want to make sure it burns in a way that they can control.
He says they plan to burn about 80-acres of forest near the lake and Keystone Heights.
They will hold a public hearing to talk about the planned burn.
The meeting is Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. at the Keystone Heights City hall.
