Population Keeps Picking Up
Northeast Florida is growing, but some counties much more than others. 7,000 people moved into St. Johns County in 2007 compared to about 6,800 in Duval, but the percentage differences are what stands out.
From 2000 to 2006 Duval's population increased 7.6%, whereas St. Johns grew by a whopping 37.4%, and Clay is up 27%.
Executive Director of the St. Johns Economic Development Council Nick Sacia says work and school options in the area are what brings many people to the area.
Sacia says despite the population increase, the real estate market has dropped in the past couple of years, but he's hearing anecdotal evidence of it picking up.
