New Movie Highlights Local Legend
The film "crazy" debuted at the Jacksonville Film Festival, and follows the life of country guitar star Hank Garland.
"It's kind of a love story between a picker that used to live around here named Hank Garland," said Waylon Payne the actor who portrayed Garland in the movie.
He says Garland helped lay the foundation for modern country and rock and roll.
"All the guitar riffs that you hear on the good songs in the '50s and the basic beginnings of rock and roll, that was all Hank Garland," Payne said.
He thinks that Garland is not getting as much credit as he deserves and hopes this film will launch him to greater fame and possible to a spot in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Garland's career was cut short by a 1961 car accident near Nashville that left him in a coma for a short time and broke down much of his motor skills. He died in Orange Park in 2004.
