New Deal For Meier & How Garrard Gets Away
The Jaguars biggest loss this off-season was the trade of Marcus Stroud to Buffalo. But truth be told, Rob Meier has played at a much higher level over the past two years. Now, the Jaguars have signed Meier to a 5-year contract extension. He'll move in as the starter at defensive tackle.
"It's always tough to lose someone like Marcus Stroud," Meier said. "He was a great friend. I wish the best for him out in Buffalo. But I'm excited about [moving into the starting lineup]."
Meier and the rest of the big guys had to endure the sand pit yesterday, slogging through drills in some deep sand. Its supposed to help conditioning, but you might not convince John Henderson of that.
"I'm tired," Henderson said after the drill. "It's not [easy]."
As for the Jaguars quarterback, when David Garrard wants to get away, he really gets away. After signing the riched deal in team history, Garrard spent some of that new money on a boat that could take him well off-shore for some fishing. His wife and her family all fish and David's caught the bug. The 41 foot boat has an aprapos name for a quarterback's vessel" Hail Mary.
David's wife is named Mary, so it's really a perfect name. So if you happen to be out on the water you may just see a rather striking paint job on a boat.
"I'm actually going to have two jaguars on the outside of it," said Garrard. "One holding a dolphin--a mahi, not like Miami Dolphins, and the other holding a sailfish in its mouth. Its going to be pretty cool."
