A gift for a local school means more college educations for First Coast students.

Vulcan Materials Company, Florida Rock Division, has given the University of North Florida $600,000.  It'll be matched at 70 percent by the state, bringing the total to just over $1 million.

It all goes to fund scholarships for The Jacksonville Commitment, which helps underpriveleged students go to school.

The Jacksonville Committment is a joint venture between the four local colleges, Duval County School Board and City Hall.

Delaney says it will help about 12 students a year get an education.
