Missing Paxon High School Student Back Home
Cries of "she's alive!" and "thank you, Jesus!" were screamed by family members of 17-year-old Kiara Washington Friday morning, after the group learned the teen had been found safe hours after her car was found abandoned near Herlong Airport.
Family members tell WOKV the Paxon High School junior never returned home from a pagent at First Coast High School last night. Around 1 a.m. family discovered the teen's car abandoned off Normandy Boulevard, not far from the teen's house.
"In terms of what happened between when she was missing and when she was found is still under investigation and we are looking at all possiblities," Jacksonville Sheriff's Office spokesperson Melissa Bujeda said.
An off-duty Sheriff's officer found the girl walking by herself shortly before 7 o'clock Friday morning.
Police will not say where the girl was located or what condition she was in. Family members say she is okay.
