Jags Begin Off-season Practices
Not everybody was there.
Fred Taylor is working out in South Florida as he usually does this time of year. And Paul Spicer apparently wants a new contract and he wasn't there. Safety Jamal Fudge was excused to be in class.
And the rookies won't arrive until next week. But everybody else was there and a few of them received most of the attention as the Jaguars opened the Organized Team Activities (OTAs) for this off-season.
Free agent signees Jerry Porter and Drayton Florence were in the spotlight. Porter caught the first pass thrown by David Garrard in the 11-on-11 drills and looked like a guy who could that #1 receiver that the Jaguars have been missing since the Jimmy Smith's retirement.
"I think it was the first play," Jack Del Rio said. "There's no question in my mind that'll be a potent combination for us this year. "
Porter has been spending this off-season thrying to get comfortable with Garrard the old fashioned way.
"We're basically here everyday, playing catch like we were brothers or friends in the back yard," Porter said.
