Duval Schools Face $70 Million Shortfall He's calculating their budget, now Duval County Superintendent Ed Pratt-Dannals says the district is facing a $70 million shortfall for the 2008-2009 school year. Dannals is calling Amendment 1, fixed costs and taking revenue from the sales tax a triple threat. He says the set back will cripple their budget and most likely force the lay-off of over 100-district employees. Along with benefit and salary cuts, the jobs of guidance counselors, teachers' assistants, academic coaches and librarians are at risk. Dannals says they're already struggling with 600-students for every one guidance counselor. He says he's committed to retaining these employees. Dannals also mentions that a recent study by the US Census Bureau shows that Florida spends less on school funding than any other state in the nation. He's also calling this the worst funding year for Duval County in three decades. Add your commentThere are no comments yet. Be the first to post one! |
