The spy planes at NAS Jax will get some back up by a billion dollars worth of unmanned drones.

NAS Jacksonville could soon be the home of high tech drones.

The Navy recently announced plans to replace a fleet of spy planes at NAS JAX with a new model of plane.

Now those planes are getting some back-up.

"This contract has just been awarded to Northrop-Grumman to build these so called BAMS, which are unmanned aerial vehicles, and they are going to compliment the other surveillance planes that are at NAS JAX," Congressman Ander Crenshaw said.

He says they recently awarded Northrop-Grumman a one billion dollar contract to build the new unmanned spy planes.

He says it is a big boom to Jacksonville's economy and to St. Augustine, where some of the planes could be built.
