Road Construction Update Jacksonville's road construction projects: You can't live with them, you can't live without them... bringing you to the depths of despair, massive mental fatigue, and angst-ridden anxiety, the kind that that leaves permanent hand prints on your steering wheel! Hear Part 1 There are projects all over the First Coast, but we start at the top, with a look at the ever-growing Northside. With the Trout River Bridge corridor project, the DOT is adding extra capacity to I-95, widening the interstate from Edgewood and Lem Turner to I-295 at the airport. "That includes the new bridge, we have 2-way traffic on both sides of the bridge. That will be three lanes each way, and that's coming along quite nicely", said Mike Goldman with the Department of Transportation. He says you can expect that project to wrap up by June. Goldman says they're also working on a ramp to make the Northside traffic less of a headache. "We're building a fly-over ramp from I-95 southbound near the airport over to 9A going to Blount Island toward the beaches". That should be done sometime in 2010. A little further down the road, literally and figuratively, work on the I-95 & I-10 interchange continues, especially in the dark. "Motorists can expect, particularly at night driving through that corridor, a series of detours". That 150-million dollar project is on pace for an early 2011 completion. And the Dames Point Bridge, now being repainted, is set for its final coat in summer 2009. Tomorrow, we'll check out the Southside and the host of road projects that are underway there.
