Red Flag Warning
A red flag warning is issued when the NWS expects low humidity and high winds.
"A low relative humidity below 35 percent and a wind speed, strong gusty winds, above 25 mph and then any duration of four hours or more for these factors. Also the dispersion is very high which means that the atmosphere really favors an upward motion causing smoke and particles to go quickly up into the atmosphere," says Analeesa Winter with the Florida Divison of Forestry.
Winter says all three factors contribute to the probability that a fire would quickly start and spread.
However, Winter says we're pretty low on the drought index at 272. She says on a scale from 0 to 800, 800 is desert conditions and 0 is saturated.
The warning is in effect from noon to 8 pm Tuesday.
