Tonight is your chance to weigh in on the proposed plan to homeport a nuclear carrier at Naval Station Mayport.

The Navy is hosting a public hearing on the Southside to talk about the economic and environmental impact of adding additional ships at Mayport...

Based on the preliminary projections by the Draft Environmental Impact Statement, the cost to bring new ships, including a nuclear carrier, would be between $390 and $490 million, and the base will need many improvements to its facilities.

Navy brass, politicians and business leaders will be in attendance at tonight's public hearing.

You can weigh in by attending from 6:30-8:30pm at the Florida Community College at Jacksonville, Deerwood Campus, Bldg. B1204, 991 Old Baymeadows Road, Jacksonville, FL 32256.

A representative from a base in Norfolk, Virginia is also expected to attend.
