Mayport Plans Receive Warm Welcome
A warm reception for the Navy brass who are studying the future of Naval Station Mayport, including homeporting a nuclear-powered carrier.
At a public hearing last night, the Navy's environmental impact team presented several options that are being considered...
Mark Dussia says your feedback is critical in the decision making process."All of them right now are on the table and all of them are being evaluated equally".
Dussia says he's getting positive feedback during this public comment phase of the planning process.
The Navy will keep the public comment period open until May and then will use the comments in its decision making process.
But we found that not everyone is satisfied with the current plans.
Russ Watson attended Wednesday's public hearing and says he did not get all of his questions answered.
"What I've tried to find out and the Navy is not prepared to make a statement yet, is which way they want to go".
Watson says he will not support moving a fleet to Jacksonville unless it's necessary for defense purposes.
Otherwise, he would like to see the millions of dollars go towards the war in Iraq and Afghanistan. Naval authorities are taking public comment through May 12th.
