I respect Fred Taylor immensely, both as a player and as a person. However, releasing him was truly in the best interest of the Jaguars as an organization. He is 33 years old, which is ancient for a running back - they typically don't last much longer than 30 or 31 years old. Yes, the Jaguars brass have made some poor decisions in signing high priced free agents in recent years, but I believe that new GM Gene Smith is putting an abrupt and firm end to that philosophy and is making the right moves. There comes a time to pass the torch, so to speak. Fred is completely content with this and it is a win-win situation for both parties. With a good draft, and a good off-season with smart and fiscally responsible free agent activity, I believe the Jaguars have a solid chance of returning to their playoff form from 2007. Go Jaguars!
