To be completely honest, we are very particular about about who we select to be in our facility because we want the experience to be extremely useful to the interns and a positive experience for our staff.
We invite college students in any related field to apply (Juniors and Seniors get preference) so you can be better prepared to enter the working world of radio broadcasting.
About News/Talk Radio, WOKV
We are Jacksonville's dominant radio station for news and talk. We are also one of very exclusive number of stations in the country operating as a true news/talk "simulcast" on both AM and FM.
Our news, programming, and marketing/promotion staff is top-notch and we operate in state-of-the-art facilities.
We are also one of only 32 NFL flagship stations, producing and broadcasting all programs and games of the Jacksonville Jaguars broadcasts.
About Our Radio Internship
Each year about a dozen college students are invited to participate as an unpaid intern at WOKV. Those students get many hours of hands-on experience and one-on-one training in broadcast journalism, radio programming, technical operations, station marketing and promotions, internet production and database marketing.
What Else Is Important To Know
Internships are non-paid, however many interns have gone on to become employees of WOKV or Cox Radio.
Because internships run over two semesters, students can choose to apply credit whenever it best fits your class load.
Students generally work 10-15 hours per week, usually two or three days per week. Internship hours can be scheduled around your class and work schedules.
If you are selected, we will work together to fit both our schedules!
What Exactly Will You Be Doing
If selected you will be doing real work alongside our professional team of news reporters, producers, anchors, web producers, programming staff, and our marketing and promotions staff.
You'll learn to write and narrate news stories for broadcast and for WOKV.com, which are heard and read by thousands every day.
You'll assist in the planning, setup, and operation of WOKV events (Jaguars Tailgate broadcast, station remote shows, client promotions).
You'll learn how we operate, how we serve our listeners, and how we help our clients.
