Thrasher Opponent Calls Campaign Cash Into Question
Charles Perniciaro's campaign has raised $360,000, and today, the candidate announced he will not accept any money from political action committees and is returning and refunding money donated earlier by PAC organizations.
Perniciaro also claims Thrasher, his GOP primary opponent, has raised 90 percent of his campaign war chest from outside the First Coast district.
"The point is, is he looking out for the residents of our district," Perniciaro said at a campaign stump this morning. "I mean does he care about the residents of district 8?"
Thrasher says he isn't surprised by the attack, calling typical talk from a candidate who isn't getting support and endorsements from businesses "and people who represent working folks."
"I've been in politics a number of years," Thrasher says. "Y'know I was Speaker of the House in the state and I've made a lot of friends and I'm proud of those friends."
Perniciaro is facing some attacks from his long-time Democratic party affiliation.
He says it's true he was registered as a Democrat when he lived in Louisiana, but claims he's never wavered from his fiscal conservative beliefs.
"I've been a Conservative my entire life," he said. "I live my life as a Republican. I've supported Republican candidates my entire life."
Perniciaro's campaign released the candidate's contribution records. Since 1995, the records show Perniciaro has donated nearly $9,000 to Republican candidates and conservative political action committees.
A recent donation, made in June of last year, was a $250 check to John Thrasher.
