Don't Forget About McCain and Huckabee

Completely overshadowed by the Democratic race between Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, the GOP candidates for the White House soldiered on in Texas on Monday, as John McCain focused his fire more on the Democrats than Mike Huckabee.

While there are four states voting today on this March 4th, Huckabee has been solely focused on Texas for the past week, busily holding rallies and fundraisers in the Lone Star State.

The polls still don't show he is making much headway, but don't be surprised if enough more conservative voters come out to vote for him, in essence to register their displeasure with the thought of John McCain as the GOP nominee.

McCain seems likely to win Vermont, Rhode Island and Ohio. If you want to put Texas in the "question mark" column, go ahead, but it would still be a big surprise if Huckabee won here. He should do well, as he did in Virginia.

McCain continues to all but ignore Huckabee and focus on Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, especially on the issue of the war in Iraq.

"That's one of the stark differences in this campaign between Senator Obama and me and Senator Clinton," McCain told voters in the Lone Star State.

"This surge is succeeding, (Obama) and Senator Clinton refuse to acknowledge that, but it's the facts on the ground," said McCain.

Obama and Clinton though argue that it's time to change the US strategy, to put the Iraqis more in charge of their own future, which would mean bringing home military men and women.

While Huckabee has tried his best to remain relevant in those kind of discussions on the campaign trail, an interview he did on Monday morning with Fox News illustrated how difficult his situation truly is.

After a couple of questions about how the race was going, the Fox News anchor gave Huckabee a punch to the gut by simply saying something like "You can't win; when are you getting out of the race?"

I cringed while eating my breakfast in the hotel lobby, wondering what Huckabee was going to say. It seemed to take him a good five seconds to come up with an answer, that fell flat.
