Jaguars Trade For Smiley
The Jacksonville Jaguars finalized a trade with the Miami Dolphins today in which the Jaguars acquired seventh-year guard Justin Smiley in exchange for an undisclosed draft pick. First-year running back Allen Patrick was waived.
Smiley, 6-3, 310, has played in 83 games with 73 starts in six seasons. He has made 40 starts at left guard and 33 at right guard. He was originally a second round pick of San Francisco in 2004 and spent four seasons with the club where he started all 16 games in back-to-back seasons from 2005-06.
Smiley signed with Miami as an unrestricted free agent in 2008. He started 24 games at left guard over two seasons with the Dolphins including 12 starts in 2009.
A native of Ellabell, Georgia, Smiley was a three-year letterman at Alabama where he started 36 games before entering the draft with one year of eligibility remaining. He was a consensus first-team All-SEC selection as a junior and was a two-time recipient of the team's Sylvester Croom Commitment to Excellence Award. He attended Southeast Bulloch High School and had his jersey retired by the school in 2006. He and his wife, Missy, have two sons, Justin Jr. and Jett.
