A Good Week To Lose
Don't get me wrong a win against the 49ers would have been a nice step to make the playoffs but the loss 20-3 wasn't that bad in the overall playoff picture.
O.k. let's be realistic the O and D lines were awful. They gave up sacks and didn't get any in return. Let's check out the stats on defense zero sacks, only three hits on the QB, and really no pressure at all. On offense the Jags gave up 6 sacks, Garrard hit the dirt 13 times, and that pressure caused 2 fumbles in the red zone. Garrard's fumblitis really cost this team some points, he now has 8 lost fumbles on the year and that's tops in the league. Speaking of costing the Jags points Josh Scobee's obviously not the kicker he used to be missing 2 field goals. One of those field goals was from 21 yards away, that's tied for the shortest missed field goal this season.
But all is still well in Jacksonville the Jags loss was out of conference so it doesn't hurt the playoff tie breaker and it's like nobody wants to win the last wild card spot in the AFC. Here's the teams that were in contention for that spot; Houston lost to Indy after having a 17-0 lead. Miami gave up 24 points in the 4th quarter and lose bad to Buffalo. The Big Ben less Steelers lost in overtime to Baltimore. The Colts win gave them the AFC South crown so now it's wild card or bust for the Jags. To break it all out, now there is a three way tie at 6 and 5 for the last spot between the Jags, Ravens, and Steelers. The Jags right now only have 2 losses in the conference and besides the undefeated Colts that's tops in the AFC.
So fear not Jaguars fans the 20-3 loss to the 49ers, isn't as bad as it seems. The Jaguars are right in the mix for the playoffs. Make it or not December will be a fun month for football on the first coast.
