The Fall of Troy
Coming out of South Carolina in 2005 Williamson had good stats. Over 1700 yards and 13 Td's in his 4 years, but the combine is where he blew scouts away. He had comparisons to Chad Ocho Cinco a 6'1" wide out who can run a 4.3 40. Williamson was drafted 7th overall, the second wide guy taken after Braylon Edwards of the Browns. Some other receivers taken in that draft where Roddy White to the Falcons, Reggie Brown to the Eagles, the Chargers Vincent Jackson, and let's not forget the Jags drafted a wide receiver too, Matt Jones.
That's where the story takes a downward spiral. Williamson has yet to play a full season, the '05 and '06 seasons he played 14 games apiece and that's his career high. It's hard to get good stats only playing in 49 games in 5 seasons, but his line is 87 receptions 1,131 yards and 4 TD'S. 4TD's really, I could catch 4 touchdowns in the NFL. The start of this season looked to be more of the same in Troy's game and a half he had 3 catches for 34 yards and 0 scores.
What happened to the burner out of South Carolina, two words, draft bust. I will go as far as putting him in the same category with Ryan Leaf, Brian Bosworth, and Lawrence Phillips. For the Jags this could be the best thing that happened so far in this season. Instead of wasting time with a guy that never lives up to his potential, the Jags can continue to develop the young guns, Mike Sims-Walker and Tiquan Underwood. The more games the Jags lose the more young guys you're going to see this season. They already started 4 rooks in week 1 by the final game you could see as many as 6 or 7 rookie starters.
