Jaguars Try To Tune Up Pass Rush
If there was a week that the Jaguars pass rush could get healthy, you would think this would be the one. Jacksonville has totalled just five sacks in four games this year. That ranks 27th in the league.
But last year against the Steelers, the Jaguars sacked Ben Roethlisburger 11 times in two games. And this year, Big Ben has gone done an average of 4 times a game. So things would seem to set up pretty well for the Jaguars pass rush this week.
"These are the kinds of games where you have to be aware of that," said defensive end Reggie Hayward. "You think that they're down, you think that they're hurt and they come back and hurt you. You can't get too overconfident."
While none of the Jaguars I spoke with would come right out and say that they expected to generate a better pass rush this week, they all agreed that pressuring Big Ben--and sacking him--are keys to Sunday night's game.
The Steelers are also going to be without one of their starting offensive linemen. Guard Kendall Simmons is out for the year after an injury on Monday night.
