Jaguars Beat Broncos 24-17 in Denver
The Jaguars may have changed their season yesterday in Denver. It was a story of past, present and future.
The Jaguars 24-17 win in Denver was fueled by a defense that turned in its best performance of the season. In that sense, they looked like the defense of the not so distant past. They weren't dominant but for the first time this year, they held a lead in the fourth quarter.
The Jaguars also saw David Garrard turn in the kind of performance that they want to see. Garrard completed 74 percent of his passes and was in total control. He looked like the Jaguars quarterback of the present. And they also got a taste of the future. For the bulk of the game, the Jaguars played with Fred Taylor on the sideline after getting his bell rung. So Maurice Jones-Drew had to carry the load.
And did he ever carry it. 22 carries for 125 yards and a pair of touchdowns. At some point in the Jaguars future, Fred Taylor will retire. We don't know if Jones-Drew can carry the load alone for an entire season, but there is no doubt, he can carry it for a time and on Sunday, he did just that.
Now the Jaguars get a week off--and it couldn't come at a better time. In two weeks, they'll be rested, ready and back at the 500 mark.
