Jags Likely To Start Season Without Jerry Porter
The Jaguars may be without Jerry Porter to start the season. Porter had hamstring surgery in May and Jack Del Rio wants to see Porter back on the practice field for a while before he puts him in a game.
"We'll need to see him out there this week if he is going to have any chance of playing next week," Del Rio said. "Realistically, we're going to need to get two weeks of practice before we can start playing him. When he starts practicing, you can start the timer."
As for the defense, the Jaguars aren't there yet. With one mroe preseason game to go, they are still trying to pick up new defensive coordinator Gregg Williams' scheme. It's not that they're totally lost, but it's not quite second nature yet. Reserve safety Pierson Prioleau played for Williams in Washington last year.
"We're not where we want to be as a defense," Prioleau said. "We're not where we want to be as a team as whole. There are some things that we want to clean up."
They have one more chance to clean it up, Thursday evening in Washington. Then it's the regular season opener September 7 in Nashville against the Titans.
