Del Rio Blaming Agent, Not Harvey For Stalemate

Jack Del Rio isn't holding it against Derrick Harvey.

On The Jack Del Rio Show Tuesday evening on WOKV, the head coach said that the lack of a contract for the first round pick wasn't the fault of the former Gator, but instead, it's all about Harvey's agent, Ken Kremer.
"Obviously, it has gone on quite a while and there's a great deal of money that's gone by right now," Del Rio said. "Quite frankly, I think its more about the agent than the player. When you look at the numbers, it doesn't make sense for anyone expect the agent building a client base for next year."

Those comments--Del Rio's first public words on the Harvey situation in weeks--mirror the comments by defensive end Paul Spicer on Monday urging Harvey to "put away the toys, be a man" and get the deal done.

It's clear that both coach and player want Harvey in camp and both seem to think that the reported gap in the deal (around $1 million in guaranteed money) is too small to quibble over. Both also recognize the Jaguars need to get Harvey in camp so he can help out the pass rush that was ineffective Saturday night against the Dolphins.

Harvey has set a Jaguars team record for the longest rookie holdout in team history. Even if he signed today, he wouldn't be ready to play Saturday in Tampa, and at earliest, he could potentially see some action a week from Thursday against Washington.

What others are saying

  • Harvey
At this point I couldn't care less if he signs with this club. Last time we had a long hold out, the player was not worth it. Let him eat cake!!
  • harveys agent
if harvey were to get injured in an automobile crash or perhaps get ill would he still get the 16 million if he hasn't signed yet?? i think not
