Ten minutes into this press conference with the guy who is supposed to help change the Jaguars fortunes at wide receiver, and all I can do is stare at his finger.

Other members of the media ask about his time in St. Louis, his philosophy on dealing with young receivers, maybe they asked him about swine flue. I can't be sure. I can't stop staring at that finger.

The middle finger on Holt's left hand takes a left turn that any NASCAR driver would be proud of.

So, hoping not to make him too self conscious or defensive, I ask about it.

Then Holt gives me the finger.

Then he laughs.

Whew!

"This is my trophy, man," says Holt. "Over the year, catching a lot of balls...popping it in, popping it out. A couple of years ago against the Steelers, I popped it out and it never went back."

Holt says he just works with it and even joked that it helps him catch more balls. I'm not sure about that.

"People ask me if I'm going to get it repaired, get it fixed," Holt said. "I tell them this is what I got out of the game. Some crooked fingers."

Are there any other benefits to it?

"Scares little kids," Holt jokes.

He says David Garrad and some other teammates have noticed and he's sure to show the young receivers, especially the three draft picks. And he'll have a message for Mike Thomas, Jarett Dillard and Tiquan Underwood.

"You catch enough balls in your career, you might get a couple of these [broken fingers] as well."
