Responding to Comments

Thanks for all of your comments on WOKV.com. You can make this as interactive as you like. I'm going to respond to a few of the comments about the Jaguars and our coverage from time to time, so here we go.

Here's a comment from Aaron about my take on the Jaguars current state.

"Though Cole has a face for radio and his commercials get on my nerves, he nailed it when he said the Jaguars are vulnerable in the middle of the field. I see teams dink and dunk all game and it just drives me nuts. That's why Tom Brady had such a high completion rate. Now that Sammy Knight is gone and Brian Williams is at the helm, maybe that will all change. Playing cover two all the time doesn't help either. We need to mix up our coverages a bit"

Cole: Not only do I have a face for radio, but I have a body for print. I also am anxious to see more of Brian Williams at strong safety. Clearly, its an upgrade as far as coverage is concerned. I want to see how he does against the run and how he holds up over the course of an entire season. He'll have more bruises this year than ever before. How will his body respond?

Here's one from a poster who bravely calls himself JAGUARSFAN:

"the jaguars are ready for a title you media just want jags to fail"
Cole: I know there is a segment of the public who loves to lump all the media into one group as if we are working as a unified front against their favorite team/candidate/issue/business. Sorry to burst your bubble, but I don't want the Jaguars to fail. I don't want anything but a good story. Would the Jaguars going to the Super Bowl be a good story? You bet. Would it be a good story for the Jaguars to fail miserably? For a while, yes. Is an 8-8 year going to produce a good story? Maybe. I will admit, as I did last year, that it's good for business when the Jaguars do well. It's also good for the city, and frankly, I love it here and I don't want to have to go somewhere else to cover professional sports.
Here's a comment from "Mike" who doesn't like me noticing that the Jaguars have some things that they need to improve if they're going to be a championship contender.
"Yeah, o.k.. As if the Patriots and that Colts have looked so great, if even good, this preseason! You should pay more attention! The Jaguars never look good in the preseason, and it has been that way since they came into the league!"
Cole: See, Mike, the difference here is that the Colts and Patriots have won championships and have the two best quarterbacks in the game. Neither Peyton Manning or Tom Brady has been playing in the preseason. Last season's playoff run raised the bar for the Jaguars. Without correcting the issues that I talked about (pass rush, pass protection, wide receiver play), can they make the playoffs again? Yes, I think they can. Can they win the division? No. And if they don't win the division, they won't have a home playoff game and that makes things much more difficult.
Finally, a comment from "Vince," who has some thoughts on Derrick Harvey's continued absence.
"It is obvious this guy is going to be less than helpful for at least 4 games if he signs and frankly given the level noise coming from his cohorts, the locker room may not be too positive either. I would try to work out a deal with the GIants who really need a DE. Probably get at least a 1 and 2 from them. Sign Harvey and trade him immediately and give his agent a copy of the NJ income tax forms. Try to move those picks for a seasoned pro and chalk the move up to experience and stay away from his agent next year."
Cole: There is no way that you would get a 1st and a 2nd for a defensive end who has never played in the NFL. And anyway, I just got a note saying that Harvey has agreed to terms. Stand by for more.
