Please Don't Panic...Yet
Here are the facts:
- The Jaguars didn't play well at all on Saturday night.
- It was a preseason game.
- It didn't count for anything...and the Jaguars knew it.
Let's remember how bad the Jaguars starters looked in week three of the preseason last year. It was so bad that it forced Jack Del Rio to make David Garrard the starting quarterback. I'm not suggesting that something drastic like that is about to happen.
But remember, after that disaster in Green Bay, the Jaguars went on to win a road playoff game, something they hadn't done since 1996.
Maybe Saturday night's debacle will serve as a wakeup call.
"It's not really anything to panic about, but its something that you want to get on top of now, before the regular season," Ingram said. "We feel that maybe it's a good thing to happen now, so we don't let those things happen later on in the season."
Will it serve as a wakeup call? Perhaps. After Saturday night's game, Jack Del Rio said that he would need to take a different approach this week. That didn't mean more contact in practice, at least not on Monday when the team was in shorts and helmets only, not full pads.
Olympic Flames: Now that the Michael Phelps story has played out, I'm looking for the next most compelling athlete at the Summer Games. I thought I might find him at the Track and Field events, and certainly, there is something to be said for Jamaican springer Usain Bolt, who blew away the competition in a world record 100 meters. But to tell you the truth, I'm more compelled by the American beach volleyball team of Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh. I know what you're saying, sure, Cole, way to go out on a limb and say that you like watching girls in bikinis play on the sand. But to watch how well they work together is sometihing. As I've stated before, I love to watch the Olympics, because with so many events, this becomes the most important thing in the world for these athletes. May and Walsh are the top rated team in professional beach volleyball, but its clear that winning a second straight Olympic gold is the most important goal for the duo. They've won 107 straight matches, a stretch that reaches a year today.
Murphy Update: Englewood High and JU alum Daniel Murphy collected a pinch hit single in the Mets loss in Pittsburgh. The Jacksonville native is hitting .429 since being called up to the Big Leagues. He's reached base safely in 15 of 16 games in which he's played.
