Before Thursday night's game, Jack Del Rio, Brian Sexton and I spoke about the looming cuts to 53. Neither of us thought there would be too many difficult decisions to be made.

But during the Jaguars 24-3 whipping of Washington, there were a few players that may have made Del Rio's decisions more difficult.

Let me preface this by saying that the bar has been set much higher for the Jaguars this year. Being in the mix for a playoff spot isn't enough. This off-season, championship expectations developed and so it is against that backdrop that I say this.

For some reason, Jaguars fans have a real complex about how much national attention the team gets. Maybe its the product of being in a small market or maybe its the most overused cliche in sports that "you must give us respect."

Of course, my response has always been that everyone respects a champion. Win, and you'll get as much attention as you can handle.

It was quite a busy day for Matt Jones. Arraigned in the morning in Arkansas--where he pleaded not guilty to cocaine possession charges--then back to Jacksonville for practice in the evening with the team.

Saturday, the Jaguars open the preseason against the Falcons. I believe that this year, even more than in the past, performance during the games will determine who starts and who makes the roster.
