Georgia On My Mind
A few non-Jaguars thoughts before training camp begins.
At SEC media days, the first question to Georgia head coach Mark Richt was about the pre-season prognistications, some of which have the Bulldogs picked as the preseson #1 team.
Richt is playing it cautiously, reminding folks of the 1988 Florida State team that was the preseason #1, only to be shutout by Miami 31-0 in the opener.
It's going to be tough for Georgia to remain focused. They have a very difficult schedule and this is the first time that the people associated with the program have been in this position. It's a new thing in Athens (at least a first in a quarter century).
I have two hopes for this season. First, that the 'Dawgs and Gators come to Jacksonville for the November 1 Georgia-Florida game undefeated. That would make for an exciting week leading up to the game and it would bring Jacksonville even more national attention (and it couldn't hurt the effort to get a naming rights sponsor for the stadium!).
Second, it's about time that Florida and Georgia are on equal footing. Afterall, its one of the best rivalries in the country and its about time that Michigan and Ohio State stop hogging all the national rivalry spotlight!
